A Natural Improvement The landscape surrounding this turn of the century, craftsman style house had received little attention over the years. The introduction of fieldstone retaining walls in the front and rear of the property provided needed structure and allowed for the addition of a private, outdoor patio area. |
The introduction of boulders to form retaining walls provided a pleasing informal appearance that fit well with the house and the client's tastes.
A boulder wall and irregular bluestone path create the setting for a shade garden on the north side of the house while providing comfortable access around the house.
By excavating back into the slope and, again, using large dry laid boulders we were able to expand the usable space behind the house and establish a comfortable outdoor living area surrounded by woodland perennials, ground covers and shade tolerant trees and shrubs..
